Berkshire Sterile awarded $185,000 in tax incentive awards for Job Growth

Berkshire Sterile Manufacturing (BSM) was awarded $185,000 in tax incentive awards by the Baker-Polito Administration and Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) for its commitment to bring 35 new long-term career opportunities in the Berkshires.

The Tax Incentive program is offered to companies engaged in life sciences research and development, commercialization, and manufacturing in Massachusetts, providing incentives to companies of all sizes looking to expand their efforts by creating new, long-term jobs in Massachusetts. Out of 28 awarded companies, BSM is the only company in Western Massachusetts to be awarded.

“Our Administration remains committed to investing at every level to ensure talent, jobs and innovation are all equally aligned to give our residents that opportunities to succeed,” said Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker.

BSM manufactures sterile drug products for use in clinical trials or in treatment of rare disease. The company was founded in 2014 by three cofounders and has since grown exponentially to over 180 present employees in 2021. The company expects to employ over 215 people by the end of 2021.

“We are extremely grateful to have the recognition and support from the state of Massachusetts and MLSC,” said CEO And cofounder, Dr. Shawn Kinney. “We created BSM in Lee to bring more high-salary job opportunities to the Berkshires, and we are thrilled to be awarded the means to help us grow.”

In addition to competitive pay and traditional benefits (health insurance plans, PTO, 401K match program), BSM offers other unique employee benefits, such as an onsite gym equipped with top-of-the-line NordicTrack treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, and rowing ergs, an onsite subsidized daycare, and monthly company-wide events and parties.

“We expect to offer both entry-level and more senior positions in manufacturing, quality control, quality assurance, process engineering, project management, and more,” stated CTO and cofounder, Dr. Andrea Wagner. “This incentive will go directly in building the business and, in-turn, create new positions for hire with competitive salaries, great benefits, and upward mobility.”
