We encourage all of our employees to actively participate in healthy activities to reduce stress, improve their wellbeing, and live a happier life, overall. Here are just a few of things we do as a company to keep everyone active:

Onsite Company Gym

In 2021, we built out our own, onsite company gym, packed with top-of-the-line Nordic Track equipment.

This gym is for employee-use only and contains two treadmills, two stationary bikes, a rower, and an elliptical that each have access to iFit. Employees can join in live classes or row, bike, run, or hike virtually in any part of the world. The gym also has free-weights, resistance bands, and a bench.

Walking Conference Room

We converted one of our sit-down conference rooms into a walking conference room containing adjustable-height standing desks with walking treadmills. Employees can use this room to do their work or they can schedule team meetings in the room. The room cannot be booked between 11AM – 1PM each day, to allow employees to walk during their lunch if they so choose.

Workplace Competitions

Every year, we run several workplace competitions geared to get employees moving or adopt healthy habits. In January, BSM employees conduct an opt-in “Biggest Loser” and “Living Well” competition that runs for eight weeks. The goal is to help employees stay accountable and meet their goal weight or stay consistent with their other health-related aspiration. All those who meet their goal are entered into a drawing for a grand prize and the biggest loser for men and women divisions receive a prize!

In the spring, the company coordinates an onsite 5K walk/run race which takes place during the work day. Anyone who participates gets a finisher’s medal and a beer!

In September, BSM enters the Biotech Wellness Challenge. Employees can opt into the challenge. Every step taken, mile ran, and mile biked earn points. Additionally, employees can watch a number of health-based webinars regarding nutrition, stress management, meditation, goal setting, and more to earn points. After six weeks, the top 15 employees in the company with the most points are awarded gift cards for their effort!

Local Races

BSM also sponsors the Steel Rail 8K/Half Marathon/Marathon Race and the Josh Billings Triathlon. Employees who participate in these races are reimbursed the cost of their admission, and they also receive free BSM swag. BSM also tries to pitch a tent at the start and finish line of the race to hand employees their gear and offer them free food and drinks after their race!
